Munich Mansions

I think I could walk aimlessy through Munich's old stately neighborhoods for days without taking a break.  I find so much inspiration in the architecture, not to mention being captivated by all of the stories that must lie within, both current and past.  So, if you're interested, take a walk with me...

I love the mosaic detailing on this home, although my picture doesn't do it justice.  It sparkles in the sunlight and is SOOOO gorgeous in real life!

These owls are everywhere.  I'm thinking they must symbolize the owls watching over these grand homes - a predecessor to video surveillance.  :)

This is a curious thing about this neighborhood...most of the houses have these little outbuildings on the corner...I presume that is where the watchmen used to sit.  It isn't very obvious but there tucked between the house and the tree is another owl.

Another onion dome.  I guess this is the eastern European influence coming in to play...

I love the accents on this house - the half-circle exterior, detailing around the windows and smaller round windows up top - all so romantic!

How about that roofline and that beautiful little terrace?

You may have noticed that all of the houses are in very muted grays, taupes and light yellows.  This sets a very regal and stately tone for the neighborhood, and they rely on the architectural details to make the homes unique and interesting.
