Kid's Bathroom Reveal
Here we are. I can finally reveal the kid's bathroom! Hooray! It's been a long time coming I know, and thank you for your patience. Hopefully it's worth the wait!
The upstairs floor of our house initially only had one tiny bathroom. So the challenge was to create another, as there were five bedrooms. The original bathroom was converted into our ensuite, and we had to forfeit one of the bedrooms to become both the stairwell for the relocated stairs and a newly created kid's bathroom.
BEFORE
This was Poppy's room initially, complete with Laura Ashely wallpaper from the 70s, which was a major challenge and expense to remove. You can see the dormer window becomes part of the new bathroom and the room is literally divided into two, with half becoming the bathroom and the other half the stairwell.
The section on the left of the photo is now the stairs and the right of the photo is the bathroom.
The BIR is now the linen closet in the hallway. We kept the doors and painted them white. The door frame was removed and the space opened up.
The wall to the left of the cupboard was pushed back into the neighbouring bedroom, to create more space for the toilet.
DURING
All the gyprock on the walls and ceiling was taken down so that villaboard could be put up instead. The floors were replaced and tiled.
New stud walls were built. The open joists you see become the stairwell.
We were on a pretty tight budget with this bathroom, so I bought the tub from a discount bathroom warehouse called Renovation D in Bankstown. It's not flash, but for about $800 works. I wanted to have a built in bath with a marble surround and wainscoting on the front, but we didn't have the space.
The vanity was picked up on sale from Recollections/Early Settler. I changed the knobs and the taps, but other than that it was a great buy.
I used a simple 30x30 polished marble tile with white grout, and a basic white subway tile. I was going to use wainscoting around the walls, but the cost of using cedar which is required in bathrooms due to the moisture, made it prohibitive.
The bathroom is pretty small and not very wide, so we didn't have many options with the showerscreen. A fixed glass panel was about all we could fit in which was custom-fitted from Hydroscreen.
The wall colour is Dulux Filippa.
Toilets were from Reece.
The taps are off centre on this well, which drove me a little nuts, but we were restricted in placement of the pipes due to the wall studs and because of the width of the bath, which juts out past the wall a bit.
AFTER
We bought the frosted adhesive film from Ebay and applied to the windows for privacy, but still allowing as much light in as possible.
The chandelier is from Brodie Lighting in Brookvale, but the same light is available at Freedom.

The mirror I bought from Mostly Mirrors in Neutral Bay about ten years ago. It was very cream so I repainted it Dulux Whisper White, and added the blue border which is a darker shade of the wall colour.
Baskets I bought online from Whiteport a few years ago. The silver knobs are from Recollections.
The aqua waste paper basket is from Pigott's Store in Woollahra. It goes with the toothbrush holder on the vanity.
The frames are from Ikea and I bought the prints online from Etsy seller Vintage by the Shore.
The bathroom sconces are from Pottery Barn in the US. I bought them online, had them shipped and converted here. They are the Nash Sconce. I covered the shades in the Indian cotton I bought by the metre at Pigott's Store.
The tap set I bought online from US shop Overstock. I had originally bought the matching tap set for the bath and shower, but the plumbing set up didn't work with the plumbing in this house and it was too late to fix it once we discovered the problem.
The plumber needed something within about an hour, so I had to dash to Bunnings and get what I could then and there. Luckily they had these taps which were cheap and looked very similar to the handle I had previously chosen.
The white subway tile was only $22/m from Hardware & General in Brookvale.
The bathroom accessories, ie towel ring, towel rail and loo roll holder are all from Recollections.
The simple polished marble tile is from My Stone in Brookvale. The same place I got the basketweave tile for our ensuite.
Here's a few shots taken in the evening, which show some details little clearer, especially the roman blind.
The roman blind was custom made using an Indian cotton I bought from Pigott's Store. The fabric is very flimsy and thin, and I'm not sure it was a great choice for a roman blind because it has puckered in places. Also the block printing is a bit dodgy in places, ie the paint has smudged during the printing process, but hopefully you can only notice up close and it looks very pretty nonetheless.
