Title : FARMERS MARKET
FARMERS MARKET
Have you visited your local farmer's market recently? Every Sunday morning you can find me strolling the stands at our local farmer's market behind the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton. It's a great way to support your local farmers and small food vendors, meet your neighbors and taste delicious local food.
My weekend favorite stall was Fat Ass Fudge-a memorable moniker for a delicious confection! Although I hadn't had my morning coffee yet, the proprietor Donna was an engaging sales woman and I soon found myself tasting tiny slivers of fudge (the "big ass" on the signage kept me from overindulging!). My favorite flavor was an unusual goats milk vanilla with a delicious and silky texture.
I always take time to stop and talk to the vendors; there always seems to be a fun story about the origin of the product or its name. Some of the signage and packaging were pure genius; I was particularly drawn to Boathouse Road, a line of spices and rubs that used a replica of a real Hampton's street sign from the 1970's for its product logo.
I came home with a bag of crusty croissants, freshly caught scallops for lunch and a jar of horseradish pickles. Yes, I left the happy fudge eating donkey behind (no pun intended!)
