A GUEST HOUSE AMONG VINEYARDS AND SCRUBLAND
Leaning against a hillside at the bottom of a valley, the old barn has been partially ruined converted into a comfortable and pleasant guest house. Transformation carried out by a couple who combines creativity and technology.
The arched opening in the upper part was created during the renovation.
The common rooms on the ground floor are covered in travertine floor.
Where once slept the shepherd, is now a luxurious guest room.
Between the bedroom and bathroom, a double wall, made of ceramic tiles coated with lime, can incorporate storage volumes. The doors are exterior shutters, diverted from their original function.
This opening, which connects two previously separate body building, was created during the renovation. The rocks that precede it have been preserved, notched to receive a concrete stairway.
Views down the concrete stairs between the rocks, stone tiled with travertine opus calepinage paired. All the technical network (electricity, telephone, hot water and heating) passes under the stairs.
In the main building, a partially glazed wall stands between the kitchen and dining room.
This marks a glass partition separating the kitchen and the dining room without breaking the volume.
While transparency, this separation avoids the isolation of the person employed in the kitchen. Sober joined the furnishings: a butcher's block, an old wooden icebox diverted into storage cabinet and a massive oak table.
The sink (or battery) was made by a stonemason in the Nîmes region, on a plan and specifications prepared by the owner.
Leading upstairs, the staircase is concrete clad in colored stone. With a sleek finesse, railing with wrought iron bars swan-neck was made by an artisan metalworker in the region.
A walk-in shower is partially hidden behind the wall.
