Poppy's 1st Birthday

My daughter Poppy's first birthday was such a glorious occasion for so many reasons. Firstly, my little baby girl was turning one, such a momentous occasion - how did it come around so quickly. Secondly, I was able to plan a party for a girl which allowed my girly side to run wild, having planned boys only parties to date. And it was to be held at my parents' spectacular rural property in the Southern Highlands, which afforded me plenty of space and decorating options.

A traditionalist at heart, I just went with simple pink, lemon and white. Something sweet, simple and girly.

The lolly bags and tags are from Paper Eskimo.

I made the pom poms using pink, white and lemon tissue paper using instructions from Martha Stewart. Unfortunately it was a very windy day and they didn't stand up well to the battering.

Family members couldn't resist getting stuck into the goodies before the guests arrived.

The beautiful birthday cake was made by Sugar Daddy Cake Design. It was exactly what I wanted, simple, feminine and delicate. 

Elissa's sugar flowers are a work of art.

I created the dessert table long before I had discovered the talents of Amy Atlas, so it's not quite up to her standard. But it looked very sweet and deliciously tempting for the little guests.

This is the first time I ever made cookies, so they are a little rough around the edges, but they were gobbled up quickly.

The cupcake toppers are from Details Details. 

I made the pink swirl meringues from a Donna Hay recipe.

I chose a springtime selection of my favourite flowers: pink sweet peas, ranunculus and tulips in a pale pink tumbler from Ikea.

The glass jars from Ikea were bursting with cotton candy.

The birthday girl with hat made by me! 

I bought the party hat at Spotlight and added the tissue paper trim, cake topper and Martha Stewart Craft flowers. 

Not sure what we'll do for number two - but this was a beautiful, memorable event I will treasure always.
