Our House Project - Week Three - Hello friends Home Improvement, On this occasion I will discuss the article entitled Our House Project - Week Three, I have provided various other latest articles. hopefully the article that I wrote is useful for you all..
This is a kind of mash up between a House Project Update and a Weekend Roundup. The house is coming along well and the carpenters are working at a cracking pace getting things knocked down and cleared out. I love going to the site and seeing it crawling with tradies working hard and getting things done. Much more satisfying than turning up and finding nobody there!
We had a bit of a drama on the weekend. We have one rather troublesome neighbour (we have 6 neighbours in total, so I guess it's inevitable we would have issue with at least one during this process), who is not that thrilled with our renovations, particularly the pool and how it will impact the trees that border our boundary. One tree is a native, an ugly looking She-oak, which is a scraggly looking thing and drops needles all year round. This tree is protected by council. The other is a much more attractive Camphor Laurel, a more attractive tree but considered a pest by council. This also drops massive amounts of debris year round. And of course of all this debris lands in direct path of our pool. The pool form-worker was working on Saturday and had an unexpected and unauthorised visitor, who was snooping around the site taking photos of the pool construction and trees in questions, taking lots of photos of the roots and asking questions about whether it was approved etc. This was not only an act of trespassing and unauthorised entry, but dangerous to enter a construction site which is fenced off for safety reasons. We suspect it was the arborist of our neighbour, and will get to the bottom of it this week. Nothing like a little drama with your neighbours to spice up a renovation!
You can see one of the trees in question in this photo. It breaks through our fence .
Formwork is coming along - what a mess.
The kitchen we sold on Ebay is nearly gone.
New opening from living room to new stairway.
This old wall kitchen wall is coming down now.
The opening is cut out for the new staircase, into Poppy's former bedroom.
Framing for the new laundry and hallway.
New opening in to the new entrance. The former playroom.
Thrilled to find the floorboards underneath are salvageable. Could save us about $20,000+ in new floorboards.
Our master bedroom is cleared out. Timber floors worth saving.
The ensuite completely stripped out.
Our guest room looking through to kids' bathroom. We have taken space from the old built-in cupboards.
Poppy's old room will become kids' bathroom.
Tricky working out how to make the roof pitch work.
We are very mindful of the budget and not blowing it. This house is probably about a 5 year commitment, until Charlie starts private school in year 5, so we don't want to overcapitalise but make sure we get the look we want, without spending too much. So I went out west to Bankstown today to a discount bathroom factory to try to find some bargains. Here's what I found.
Cool freestanding bath for the kids' bathroom.
Gooseneck arm and shower rose for the ensuite and kids' bathroom.
Some good choices for undermount bathroom basins.
I then visited the marble wholesaler to look for inspiration for the kitchen benchtop. Oh my God, I was in marble heaven. A warehouse the size of a football field chock full to the gills with slabs of the most stunning marble, limestone and granite. Amazing that this stuff comes out of the ground.
I know marble kitchen benchtops are a big no-no, but how can I possibly resist this?
How can I possibly pick just one?
Slabs of beautiful marble stacked up like old mattresses.
I have been rather preoccupied with renovations this last week, and the hours I would normally spend daily reading your lovely blogs and commenting, have been spent scouring the internet looking for products and bargains, and on the phone getting quotes, if not on-site with the builders, or trying to catch up with my children and husband. I am trying to catch up, on the hundreds of blog posts I am behind on, so please forgive me if I have not been as present as I would like to be. I'm reading and looking, but not pausing at this point. Hopefully things will slow down at some point soon. As always, I am enjoying your blogs nonetheless.
I have a number of renovation dilemmas which I will consult with you about this week, and a vote to put out regarding my US itinerary. Hope you all start the weekend refreshed and relaxed.
Ps blogger was a little uncooperative when I was writing this post, so apologies if it comes out a bit topsy turvy.
