things are motoring along at the house. The pool builders have made a nice old mess of the backyard, and made enemies of a few neighbours after they drained the contents of the pool (mucky rainwater) directly into their backyards. Apparently one had 30 cm of water up to their back steps. Not Happy Jan!
On the upside, the builders are going a great job inside. Amazing what they can achieve in one day. Walls are coming down, bathrooms being gutted, decks dismantled. All very exciting and making me get my skates on ordering things so I don't hold them up. Anyone know where I can get cheap marble tiles? ie less than $300/m?
We also had great success on Ebay and managed to sell our kitchen for $3,000, plus small amounts for the old gas heater, air conditioner, 50s lights and mirror. Who knew! My husband is lying awake for hours every night stressing about the budget, and how we are haemorraging money and that we aren't going to be able to finish the job if costs continue to escalate as they have in week one. And I'm staying awake for hours every night wondering which kitchen appliances I should get and what colour scheme to do for the bedrooms! And stressing about not being able to afford the $350/m marble tiles I have been dreaming about for the past 12 months.
I guess it has to get worse before it can get better!
The deck has been removed from the back so the backstairs now go nowhere.
The hole is being cut for the new staircase from the old playroom up into Poppy's old bedroom.
Just having walls removed and rooms opened up has made a huge difference already.

Our ensuite has been stripped. So much bigger already.
The boys found this old 45 under the carpet. Aussies will appreciate it - it's John Farnham's "Sadie, the cleaning lady". An Aussie classic. Hello Ebay.....
And here's where we are living while we renovate. A sweet little cottage up the road.
It's tiny but will do the job.
Finally a backyard the kids can use with cubby.
My office is a tiny corner of the one living space we all share. Cosy.
I didn't even bother decorating or making it look great, can't get excited about it when it's so temporary. And with so much kids' stuff in the same space it's almost impossible to make it look stylish!
Piles of magazines, folders, files, brochures, quotes, invoices, endless bits of paper and empty boxes - this is where we live. Phoebe Howard - watch out!
Kitchen is old and tired but will do adequately for the next 6 months.
