Let's get started!

Phew, I'm exhausted and it's still only January. Holidays are just never long enough!

Not sure which is the more hideous job, packing or unpacking, but they are both up there with worst jobs of all time. On top of which my husband is constantly complaining that we have too much stuff, that I have to cull, that we need to sell furniture, mirrors, chairs and anything we have that numbers more than one. He doesn't seem to understand the concept of pairs, or decorating or collecting! I have been banned from buying any else for the house, which is just soooo ridiculous! So now that he has gone back to work I'll have to start secreting away money for my covert shopping trips! None of our mirrors work, so what's a girl to do?

Anyway, we are back in the house and now have ALL our stuff. It was kind of like Christmas unpacking the fifty or so boxes we had, and I had forgotten how many lovely things I owned. I really have rather nice taste! However, there are about 20 more boxes stuffed under the house, which was supposed to be a dedicated Manland, but which is now simply storage of my umpteen containers of Christmas decs, ribbons and wrapping paper, craft stuff, old magazines, styling props, memorabilia, old school projects, photo albums and about 3 travel cots and 4 spare car seats! I have been told I have to get rid of my collection of  commemorative magazines on Princess Diana, Princess Mary and the Duchess of Cambridge, plus 9/11 and Steve Irwin! I assured my husband they will be collector's items one day and Charlie might need them for a school project, but he doesn't see the value and clearly has not a sentimental bone in his body!

Christmas came and went too quickly. The kids had a gastro bug in the days leading to Christmas Day, but thankfully were well on the day. I however, was not so lucky and managed to make it to the lunch table, only to take two mouthfuls of turkey and spend the rest of the day and night between bed and the bathroom floor. Not much of a celebration. New Year's Eve was spent watching the spectacular fireworks on Sydney Harbour, but my husband succumbed to the bug on NY Day, so that was a bit of an anticlimax

Charlie made sure there were 9 carrots for the reindeer.

My Christmas table setting - greenery from Mum's garden.

Charlie's favourite present - a Ben 10 watch.

Poppy's favourite a fairy dress I got at FAO Schwartz in NYC.

Even the dogs in the family scored from Santa.

Charlie very excited about his new school uniform - shame about the maroon!

I was putting on a brave face because I felt like chucking any minute!

Charlie's and my first ever gingerbread house which he decorated.

We did however all managed to stay well for our much needed trip to Byron Bay for a week. The drive up was rather tiresome and boring and the Pacific Hwy is a national disgrace, not to mention the exorbitant cost of roadside motel accommodation. But Byron turned on the most glorious weather, we had the best apartment right across the beach and just enjoyed a week of pure relaxation with great friends, family, food and no thoughts of houses or renovating.

The Pass

Favourite lunch of all time - prawns, salad, shandy and fresh bread!
View from our balcony.
Wategos Beach.

Now I'm sure you're all dying to see the house and how great it looks......but I'm afraid this is what it currently looks like and this is after three days of solid unpacking and chucking and repacking. No idea how I'm going to get from this to a livable and stylish state, but it may take months, so brace yourselves!

Too many chairs, too much stuff - help!
Kids toys are viral and Poppy's Christmas present from Santa is still in the box - it's a wooden kitchen
Need a huge white bookshelf for this wall and cushions need editing!
No idea where to put my desk and office stuff, looks so ugly and I'm running out of space
Mould covered furniture from storage
The entrance, with stairs still unfinished

The painters are back, the floor in the hallway is being laid, the plumber has yet to return, as does the electrician and there are plenty of things that need finishing and fixing, but as long as the kids are swimming and the sun is shining I can cope.

I'm motivated and have lots planned for the year for the house, the blog, new business and a few surprises in store, so it's back in the swing now. Let's get underway!
