Title : Scandinavian Style in the Hamptons
Scandinavian Style in the Hamptons
Built by a Finnish fashion stylist, Tiina Laakkonen, and her American husband, the house was inspired by a derelict barn that originally stood on the property.
To perpetuate a sense of the history of the place some purposeful imperfections were included in the design; the walls, for example, are all brush painted.
Nevertheless, says Laakkonen, “Here there is no attempt to do something visually clever, just to make it a home.”
The interior isn't only influenced by Laakkonen's Finnish heritage; the house is filled with treasures collected on twice-yearly trips home.
The wooden floors are painted the gray of every farmhouse in Finland, and a patchwork of Marimekko prints covers the sofas in the living area.
Laakkonen so enjoyed the decorating process she plans to open a shop which will carry a selection of products by Finnish designers.
