Title : MY DIFFERENT DREAM WEDDING
MY DIFFERENT DREAM WEDDING
Our international group of blogettes, that post monthly under the label 'By Invitation Only', have following theme this mounth: Weedings ore my own idea of a dream wedding at a wonderful destination. The group was foundes by my dear friend Marsha Harris, and we are only two from Scandinavia who have membership in 'By Invitation Only'. To join the exclusive group, you must be recommended by a person who already has a membership.
My husband and I are already married, which we were in 2009. Then we had a civil ceremony at the Town Hall in Aalborg, Denmark. We both dream of having a church wedding as well (perhaps me most), and therefore I often think of how my dream wedding to be.
I have actually two different dream weddings, one is totally different from the other. Here I will write about one of my dream wedding, but if you click here you can read about the church in my second dream wedding. The world's 'eighth wonder' is also a part of my second dream wedding.
The ruins is located outermost at the "Domkirkeodden" jutting out into the lake Mjøsa just north of the city of Hamar. The construction of the church began when Hamar bishopric was created in 1152/53, and was completed around the year 1200. The Cathedral was destroyed during the Seven Years War in 1567. This is one of the worlds most important, magnificent and beautiful ruins, and to preserve it for the future, it was in 1987 decided to build a protective structure of glass and steel above it. The building is called "Hamar Cathedral" and it was completed in 1998.
The beautiful glass cathedral is unique with its magnificent architecture. Surrounded by steel and glass, resists the proud medieval archways there and reminiscent of a bygone time.
A new sacral space has emerged that provides a unique experience at church services, baptisms and weddings. The fine sound make Hamardomen suitable for concerts and other cultural experiences. The church seats to 800 seats if required.
For the wedding I will decorate the cathedral with great urns covered with ivy, grapes and various kinds of moss. The large urns with natural materials will provide a stunning contrast to the gray ruins and the glass.
An alternative could be to replace the grapes with someone who is more typical Norway, for example. clusters of rowan berries, sea buckthorn, black elderberry, or juniper berries, depending on the season.
The aisle of the cathedral will be covered with ivy and moss like the picture.
I also want that the same urns should be in each of the old archways, at the altar and the entrance to the church.
On both sides of the main altar in the Cathedral there shall stand a large decoration.
Baptizing font in the cathedral
I want my hair style like this. Not too tight and not too neat
In my second dream wedding, both my husband and I want to wear our national dress (bunad). The most special feature of this wedding, is that I want wear a black bridal gown with black veil, which is perfect if you have been married before. It should be noted in this connection that I love the color black. It is timeless, classic and incredibly elegant. I also like red and earthy colors like brown and green, but the tender pastel colors are not for me.
This dress can also be a good alternative as a wedding dress.
The idea for a black wedding gown, I got several years ago, when I was passing this wedding procession in Copenhagen. I did not like the bridal bouquet, but the bride was extremely beautiful in her black dress and black veil. She arrived at the church in a black carriage drawn by four horses. The creator of the stage setting was none other than the great master himself, Tage Andersen, as in the picture makes the bride ready to go into the church.
I had thought of a black wedding dress for many years, but courage failed all the time. When I saw the bride, was my first thought; when she has the courage to do so, I have too! So therefore I share this dream with you today.
After the ceremony in the cathedral, the bridal couple and wedding guests will go on board in the lake Mjøsa's "White Swan", Skibladner, the world’s oldest paddle steamer in scheduled regular service. Skibladner´s name come from the god Frøy´s magical ship in ancient Norse mythology. The lady has not changed much since her maiden voyage in 1856. She looks almost identical as she did back then, both with regards to her looks and to her interior. In just over 11 hours, she can make the trip across lake back and forth (Eidsvold-Lillehammer).
This venerable old lady plies between the villages and towns around Mjøsa: Lillehammer, Moelv, Gjøvik, Hamar and Eidsvoll. The Lady is in scheduled service all summer but also do “mjøs – cruises” and charter tours. I tought this old lady deserved a cache in honour for more than 150 years of service. Skibladner can also be chartered for special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, business arrangements and benefits. The beuatiful scenery and unique experience of this veteran paddle ship will leave a long lasting impression on anyone who sails on her. On board the Skibladner there are four small saluting cannons. For special occasions you can have them fired at any stage on the journey. This can be requested through the Skibladner office or on board during the trip.
The food on board is excellent. It will be served lunch to the wedding procession, consisting of fresh salmon, fresh shrimps and new Norwegian strawberry. With Skibladner's rhythmic and relaxing paddling across the Lake, the guests will be able to enjoy a landscape that will please all the senses.
Skibladner has a luxurious restaurant seating approximately 70 persons. In addition to the restaurant and the cafeteria, you can enjoy three lounges: "First Class Gentlemans Saloon", "First Class Ladies Saloon" or "Smoking Room", which have all been restored to their original splendour.
Fresh Norwegian shrimps.
Skibladner offers its passengers an unforgettable voyage along Norway´s largest lake with views of the rolling hills and well-kept farms on the shores. The boat calls in at a number of landing-stages with good rail connections, so that passengers can choose the route that suits them. Sailing season are mid May to mid September.
After an afternoon on the lake aboard in Skibladner, the ship adding at Nes Pier, where an old veteran car (Bentley from 1958 ore Chevrolet from 1928) and a veteran bus is waiting to drive us the short way up to Hoel Farm. Here, we celebrate the wedding with five-course dinner, music etc. in the evening and here the guests will sleep at night. The next morning will be served breakfast before we explore the area.
The Volvo bus from 1929 is the world oldest in operation.
On the Nes peninsula lies Hoel Guest Farm majestic to. The small house in front is the bridal suite.
There are places that bring the past and the present together in a blend of time-honoured tradition and respectful progress. The stately Hoel Farm is such a place. Situated in the rolling countryside of the Nes peninsula in Lake Mjøsa, the Hoel Farm offers high-quality accommodation and exquisite meals in an atmosphere of tranquillity and hospitality that delights travellers from near and far.
Hoel Farm also offers an atmospheric and beautiful wedding in the garden.
From the farm and the beautiful garden you can look out over the lake Mjøsa and the fields on the other side.
On Hoel Farm you will experience the unique combination of Norwegian simplicity and princely comfort that has made Hoel a noted cultural heritage venue. The farm can accommodate 42 overnight guests.
In Hoel Farm can serve a traditional meal in the cosy farm kitchen with the large fireplace or an elegant five-course dinner in one of the dining halls.
The wedding table must be in exactly the colors which Yvonne shows in this photo. The combination of the beautiful cream-colored dinnerware (which I absolutely adore) and the pure white napkins, table cloth and flowers along with silver cutlery and napkin rings are incredibly beautiful.
Where can I buy the dinnerware Yvonne?
Coffee and liqueurs are served in the lounge.
On the beach there is cosy gateway houses with TV and modern bathrooms for guests who will stay. The houses is at the end of the long linden avenue, right by the pier and beach front.
All the bedrooms in the gateway houses has its own character and each has countryside charm.
The farm is mentioned in one of the Norse king sagas relating events from the 13th century, and the oldest object in the farm museum is a 6th-century bronze buckle. Today Hoel is a living farm with modern poultry, grain and potato production.
